Could It Be Panic?

A panic attack can feel terrifying. Your heart races, your chest tightens, you can't catch your breath, and for a moment, it feels like something is seriously wrong.

Even after it's over, you may find yourself constantly wondering, "What if it happens again?"

Do you...

  • Avoid certain places because you're worried you might panic there?

  • Constantly check in with your body to make sure everything feels "normal"?

  • Worry that your racing heart or dizziness means something dangerous is happening?

  • Feel anxious about feeling anxious because you're afraid it could trigger another panic attack?

  • Find yourself making decisions based on what feels "safe" instead of what you actually want to do?

Your World May Be Getting Smaller Without You Even Realizing It.

Panic isn't just about the few minutes of an actual panic attack.

It's everything that happens afterward. You start scanning your body for signs that another one might be coming. You wonder whether you should drive that far, go to that restaurant, stand in that long line, or take that vacation. Little by little, your life starts revolving around preventing the next panic attack instead of living the life you want.

The fear of panic often becomes more limiting than the panic itself.

You Are Not Alone

Panic attacks are incredibly common. Millions of adults experience them every year, and about 2-3% of adults experience panic disorder in a given year. It’s also very treatable.

People often respond with comments like, "Just calm down," or "You're fine."

While they're usually trying to help, those words often leave you feeling even more alone and misunderstood because the fear feels very real.

At Taking Care Therapy, I believe that taking care of yourself isn't something you earn after everything else gets done. It's part of how you keep showing up for the people and life you care about.

Feeling Safe Again Is Possible

After a panic attack, it's completely understandable to want to avoid anything that reminds you of it. Your brain is trying to protect you by preventing it from ever happening again.

The problem is that the more your life becomes organized around avoiding panic, the more powerful panic begins to feel.

Therapy isn't about convincing yourself you'll never panic again. It's about helping your brain learn that panic, while incredibly uncomfortable, isn't dangerous. As your confidence grows, panic begins to lose the power it once had over your life.

Therapy that meets you where you are.

You don't need to wait until panic attacks become more frequent before asking for help. Whether you've experienced one panic attack or many, we'll work together to understand what's happening and why your nervous system is responding this way.

During our first few sessions, we'll identify what tends to trigger your panic, how your body responds, and the behaviors that may be unintentionally keeping the cycle going. We'll move at a pace that feels manageable while helping you gradually build confidence in your ability to tolerate anxiety instead of fearing it.

My approach is practical, collaborative, and down to earth. Depending on your goals, we may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), exposure-based strategies from Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness, and nervous system regulation techniques to help you feel less afraid of your body's alarm system.

Progress doesn't mean never feeling anxious again. It means understanding what's happening inside your body, trusting that you can handle those sensations, and feeling confident that panic no longer gets to decide where you go or how you live.
