Does Your Mind Keep Asking, "But What If...?”
OCD isn't about being neat, organized, or liking things a certain way.
It's about getting stuck in a cycle of unwanted thoughts, doubt, and the overwhelming urge to feel certain before you can finally relax.
Do you...
Feel like your brain won't let something go until you've figured it out with complete certainty?
Replay situations over and over, trying to make sure you didn't do something wrong?
Find yourself constantly looking for reassurance, even though it only helps for a little while?
Worry that having a thought somehow says something terrible about who you are?
Feel exhausted from arguing with your own mind all day?
You're Not Just Overthinking. You're Feeling Trapped by the Doubt.
OCD has a way of making even ordinary moments feel uncertain.
You tell yourself you'll think about it one more time, Google it one more time, ask one more person, or mentally review it one more time. Relief comes for a few minutes, maybe even a few hours, before another doubt quietly appears. Over time, it can feel like your brain is constantly demanding certainty in a world where certainty simply doesn't exist.
The hardest part is that you often know the thoughts don't make logical sense… but they still feel impossible to ignore.
OCD affects approximately 1-2% of adults during their lifetime, and many people live with symptoms for years before receiving the right diagnosis. Because OCD is often misunderstood, people may dismiss it as "being a perfectionist" or "just overthinking."
Comments like "Just stop thinking about it," or "Everyone has weird thoughts," usually miss the point. The problem isn't having the thoughts themselves. It's how stuck and responsible you feel for them.
At Taking Care Therapy, I believe that taking care of yourself isn't something you earn after everything else gets done. It's part of how you keep showing up for the people and life you care about.
Living With Less Doubt Is Possible
One of the biggest misconceptions about OCD is that recovery means never having another intrusive thought again.
In reality, everyone has strange, unwanted, or uncomfortable thoughts from time to time. The difference is that OCD convinces you those thoughts need to be solved, analyzed, or neutralized before you can move on with your day.
Therapy isn't about making thoughts disappear. It's about changing your relationship with them so they no longer control your life.
Therapy that meets you where you are.
You don't have to know whether what you're experiencing is "really OCD" before reaching out. If you're finding yourself trapped in cycles of doubt, reassurance seeking, checking, mental reviewing, or intrusive thoughts, we'll work together to better understand what's happening.
Our first few sessions are about identifying the specific obsession-compulsion cycle that's keeping you stuck. We'll explore what triggers your anxiety, the compulsions that temporarily reduce it (including mental compulsions that often go unnoticed), and how those patterns have been reinforced over time.
My approach is practical, collaborative, and down to earth. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard treatment for OCD, is the primary approach I use. Together, we'll gradually help your brain learn that uncertainty is safe enough to tolerate, without relying on compulsions or reassurance to feel okay. Over time, intrusive thoughts become less frightening, less believable, and much less disruptive to your daily life.
Progress doesn't mean never feeling uncertain again. It means trusting yourself enough that uncertainty no longer controls your decisions, your relationships, or your peace of mind.
